Bellevue Wins Season Opener Against Kentridge
Bellevue Water Polo broke out this season with an exciting match against Kentridge HS. Bob Frazer dashed to win the first sprint and then dumped 5 goals past the Kentridge goalie on steals and fast breaks within the first 5 minutes of the game. Kentridge, on their heels, reevaluated their game strategy in the second quarter by containing shooting menace Frazer and then scoring 4 goals in short order. The second quarter started off with goals from Tom Jamilov and Aidric George, however, Kentridge’s strongest three shooters still brought the game to a tie in the fourth quarter.
Entering a tie game in the 4th quarter, Coach Jenna, in her debut as Bellevue’s Head Coach, put in her meanest and fastest Wolverines and used her timeouts strategically to set up power plays which enabled Bellevue score two goals, giving Bellevue the Big Win. Kentridge players promised another competitive match on their next meeting. Fully aware that Goalies win games, Bellevue secured its first victory on Friday with the help of breakout freshman varsity goalie Sol Edwards. Final score in the varsity game, Bellevue 12, Kentridge 10.
Everyone on Varsity and swing squads got into he pool for the Varsity game. Then Swing and JV teams got in the pool for the JV game; sliding to a safe victory. The parents and players from both teams went home happy after seeing their kids play so well. Win or lose, it was fun for all who attended the match.
