Emerging Talent: Bellevue Freshmen Wan and Pillai Show Growth and Grit
Player of the Game – Bainbridge Island: Matthew Wan!
Freshman standout Matthew Wan made his presence felt in Bellevue’s second matchup against Bainbridge Island. After a quick cat nap on the ferry, he came out firing—netting four goals, dishing out an assist, earning an exclusion, and snagging three steals. His all-around effort kept the Wolverines in a nail-biter that went down to the wire. With energy, skill, and poise in the pool, Matthew proved he’s a key contributor and a name to watch as Bellevue gears up for State.
Player of the Day – JV League: Rohan Pillai!
Freshman Rohan Pillai has been a success story in Bellevue’s JV water polo season. Despite never playing the sport before, he jumped in with determination—and the Wolverines couldn’t be happier he did. In just two and a half months, Rohan has built an impressive understanding of the game, showing remarkable endurance and a willingness to compete every chance he gets. His defensive instincts shined in two recent games, where he consistently disrupted plays and stole possessions. Beyond the scoreboard, Rohan has emerged as a leader in practice, keeping teammates focused and helping explain drills. The future looks bright, and we can’t wait to see him back in the pool next season!
